The Institute of Technology, Tralee have recently announced the launch of a cosmetics product validation service at IT Tralee. The service will provide a way for companies to validate claims such as ‘moisturising’ and ‘hydrating’ in a standardised, quantitative way. Shannon Applied Biotechnology Centre (Shannon ABC), a research centre at IT Tralee, have been conducting research with cosmetics companies for over 5 years and have recently invested in industry standard skin probes to assist Irish cosmetics companies in the validation of their products.

As part of this launch, Shannon ABC at IT Tralee are seeking volunteers to be part of the cosmetic testing panels. “The skin probes are non-invasive and completely painless” said Dr Tim Yeomans, Centre Manager of Shannon ABC, “we are looking for men and women over the age of 18 to take part in these cosmetic validation trials, participants will get to try out new cosmetic products before they hit the market, all products are certified as safe according to EU standards and so it is a great opportunity to get involved at the very start of a new product life cycle. A significant challenge for the marketing of cosmetic products is to get beyond the qualitative preference based statements; these probes provide this scientific support”.
